A few words of the BRIF subgroups progress:
-‘Digital ID’ subgroup /Contact person: G. Thorisson, University of Leicester, UK
Identifiers for biobanks: White paper in current progress i/ to provide background information on
acknowledgement-related challenges biobankers face, ii/ to explore the technical basis for tackling the challenges of adopting digital identifier schemes, and iii/ to provide a set of recommendations for implementors. Identifiers for databases: collaboration planned with BioDBCore to implement identifiers for databases.
- ‘BRIF parameters’ subgroup /Contact person: B. Parodi, National Institute for Cancer
Research- CRB, IT Aim: to characterise parameters to take into account in impact factor calculation. A table is circulating in order to i/ score parameters relevant to bioresources but not handled by BRIF, ii/ score parameters relevant to bioresources and to BRIF , iii/ classify them according to their relevance to BRIF M. Deschênes, P3G, CA A document is being realised to identify a set of clause that help ensure proper measure of the impact of bioresources, and a list of broad categories of topics that might have an impact on access: i/ elements present in the Access/Sharing policies that have an impact (positive of negative) on the use of Bioresources (things that might ‘push’ or ‘restrict’ use), ii/ elements (in or related to the Access/Sharing polices) that would help support and potentially enforce the proper recognition of Bioresources used in research. A. Cambon-Thomsen, Inserm, FR Proposals have been sent to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and to the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) in order to inform journal editors about the BRIF issues and to promote the modification of editorial guidelines accordingly. These proposals highlight some additional requirements that may be needed to address the editorial problems concerning bioresources.
